I live online now

Isolated but not alone.

At home for 4 weeks now.

I have my wife and dog with me.

I breathe the air outside on the balcony or 10-minute dog walks.

Everything is still.

But game design moves forward.

At the start of this isolation, I was completely frustrated because no matter how much I design in the end I can't playtest my games. I can't meet up with people and play. So I live online now. Someone told me that uploading and testing games online is easy, so I downloaded Tabletop Simulator (TTS) on Steam.

Since then my mind opened up. The frustration that held me from designing shuttered to pieces and all the juices started flowing. I went up from not wanting to design anything until I can actually playtest, into designing 4 games (2 of which with co-designers).

The transition was smoother than I could ever imagine. With basic understanding, I uploaded a full game (and not a small one) into TTS and tested it on the next day. From never using it to testing in a day... I was amazed. The official guide from the company itself is very informative and quick. I might even use it for the first few iterations of a game so that I don't print so many versions.

So what is this post about? It is about hope. The Coronavirus will pass at some point. A different one for every country and region, but it will nevertheless. You can still playtest your games and it's easy. Try TTS or Tabletopia.
